Sibiya faces new charge over seized weapon

The legal team of the suspended national police deputy commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, was formally notified of the intention to proceed with an additional charge related to a weapon seized on the day of his arrest.

The 59-year-old man is seeking bail at the Randburg magistrate's court and faces five charges, including rape, human trafficking, and sexual preparation of a girl aged 16 years.

Sibiya denied raping a woman aged 18 years, telling the Randburg magistrate that they had consensual sex and remained in contact afterwards.

His legal representatives were informed of the state's intention to add the charge.
